Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft 365 Copilot is Microsoft’s work AI assistant inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, grounded in company data and able to run custom agents.
About this tool
Microsoft 365 Copilot is the business edition of Microsoft’s Copilot assistant. It works inside the Office apps people already use: drafting and editing documents in Word, analysing data in Excel, building decks in PowerPoint, summarising threads in Outlook and recapping meetings in Teams. A work chat connects to organisational data, so answers can draw on the files, emails and meetings that make up a team’s work.
Microsoft calls this grounding layer Work IQ, combining company context with a choice of AI models; an automatic mode picks a model based on accuracy, speed and cost. Agent Builder lets employees describe a custom agent in plain language, and Copilot Studio is used to extend and manage agents at scale. Copilot runs on desktop, web and mobile, with voice, keyboard or pen input.
What you can do
Copilot in Office apps
Assistance is built into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams rather than in a separate tool.
Work-grounded chat
Chat answers draw on the organisation’s documents, emails and meetings rather than only on public data.
Agent Builder and Copilot Studio
Employees can create agents in natural language, and IT can extend and govern them in Copilot Studio.
Automatic model selection
An auto mode chooses an AI model per request, balancing quality, speed and cost.
Who is it for?
- A manager asks Copilot to summarise a long email thread and draft a reply in Outlook.
- An analyst explores a sales spreadsheet in Excel by asking questions in plain language.
- An HR team builds an agent that answers policy questions from internal documents.
Before you choose
Copilot can surface any data a user can already access, so review sharing permissions before enabling it across an organisation.
Plans, bundles and prices differ by country and company size, and some offers are promotional; confirm the exact licence you need.
